Nepal
If you would meet her, you will not see anything but love
Short Story
During a trip in Kathmandu, Nepal, the Hummingbird met a gorgeous lady. Let’s call her Mandavi. They got a connection immediately. Mandavi was showing the Hummingbird where she works and what she does. During the trip the Hummingbird and Mandavi got to meet each other on a work basis. One day the Hummingbird got sight of big scars on her body and asked what had happen to her. Here is her story.
The Hummingbird
Founder
She felt very unhappy
Mandavi
Mandavi told the Hummingbird that one day she did not want to live anymore and wanted to commit suicide. She felt very unhappy and did not see a way out. The Hummingbird asked her what made her realize not to continue with what she was doing to herself. Mandavi said that she started thinking about her husband and children. She realized that if she continued she would damage the lives of her husband and children. She did not want to take that risk. So she took responsibility for her own life.
She turned the page and started looking for work. As Mandavi comes from a poor family with hardly anything, she had to find herself away to get herself out of this cycle. She succeeded in finding work at a company that teaches women to have their own income. First she had to learn how to do stitching, but soon her leader skills had been discovered. She became a teacher to new groups of women. Then she became the leader of the group and later she started teaching women how to do stitching in neighbouring countries.
Then in 2015 the huge earth quake hit Nepal. Kathmandu was much damaged by the earth quake including the place where she was living. After hearing the news, the Hummingbird tried to call her, but she did not get in touch. A couple of days later the Hummingbird received a phone call. It was Mandavi!! She told the Hummingbird that that very day a machine had been brought to her area so that people could charge their phones. She called her after seeing missed calls. She told the Hummingbird that she had lost her father and her house after the earth quake. But even under these circumstances she sounded joyful. She was thankful for receiving a phone call from oversees asking if she was all right.

After a couple of years
In 2016 the Hummingbird flew to Kathmandu to travel through Nepal. She got to meet Mandavi again after a couple of years. Mandavi showed where she lived and that she had switched jobs where she had a leaders roll too. She showed how her house had been damaged by the earth quake. They sat down on the pavement. And as they were sitting, she told the Hummingbird that at that very place her father died under the stones during the earth quake. Her own house was perhaps 8 m2 where she is living with her family.
When leaving Nepal, Mandavi insisted on coming to say farewell at the airport. She came with presents for the Hummingbird to take home and to wave till they meet again. Now in this time of COVID-19 this beautiful lady contacted the Hummingbird. She told her that there is a complete lock down. She sounded joyful as her nature is like that. She said that she and her family are not allowed to leave the house, but they are safe…….
When the Hummingbird remembers Mandavi, she sees a beautiful person that has hardly anything in her life, but celebrates live like she owns every part of it. She is an example of balancing the joy and tragedies of life.
If you would meet her, you will not see anything but a loving and joyful person with a big heart….
